A proud member of Columbus High School’s class of 1957, Maureen Grady has provided nursing, pastoral care, and educational training all over the world. After earning her initial nursing diploma at Holy Cross, she later received a B.S. in Nursing from Loyola – and a Masters in Pastoral Care and Counseling plus a Doctorate in Ministry from Christian Theology Seminary in Indianapolis.
Her Nursing assignments often took her overseas, including work for Catholic Relief Services in Thailand, the Philippines, and Lebanon responding to emergency needs for victims of war in the early 1980’s. In the late 1980’s she served as Director of Pontifical Mission in Lebanon, managing Millions of dollars in aid and relief for war victims. In the 1990’s Sister Maureen continued her service in the Catholic Church in a key role in the Pontifical Mission in New York City, then as Consultant for Pastoral Education for Women in Lebanon.
In the early 2000’s, Maureen served at St. Vincent DePaul Regional Seminary in Florida as Dean of Pastoral Formation and Director of Field Ministry. In 2010 she was awarded a faculty Fellowship for Research and Scholarship at St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana, where she became a visiting professor and taught several different levels of students, including Doctoral Nursing candidates, until 2023.
Sister Maureen has collaborated on books, curriculum and other educational resources that are still being widely utilized in Health Care training. Among her many honors are the Pro Ecclesia Pontifical Medal (awarded by the Holy See, Vatican City); Lebanese National Citizenship (highest honor awarded by the Republic of Lebanon); Spirit of Ignatius Award (Holy Cross School of Nursing); Member of Theta Phi Theological Honor Society; and Member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.
